3-days for an immersive experience among chic and traditional Apulian Masserie and their surroundings. Apulia is a land rich in traditions, fragrances and ancient testimonies that are just waiting to be discovered by those who know how to go beyond its best-known wonders. During this short break you can dive into a paesant experience and live like a real Apulian the local cuisine, organic wine , km-zero delicacies and also we will make fresh pasta in a cooking class. Within our short break in Apulia you will have the opportunity to stay in a very special accommodation. Specifically, our accommodation for this short break is Masseria Amastuola in Crispiano. Built at the beginning of the 15th century by Giovanni Antonio Orsini, prince of Taranto. 

What to Expect

Walking through the Apulian countryside, among the expanses of olive trees and dry-stone walls, you can come across rural buildings, literally farms, better known as masserie (plural of masseria) that are located in isolated points. Completely made of stones, they have a very ancient history because they were used in the past as real farms with servants’ quarters, stables and gardens.  In this places, you can still breathe the history, taste traditional receipts and learn the secrets of local practices. The masserie represent an important part of local heritage, of the peasant civilization of the Apulian territory and its traditions. Within our short break in Apulia you will have the opportunity to stay in these ancient rural accommodation. Specifically, our accommodation for this short break is a Masseria built at the beginning of the 15th century by Giovanni Antonio Orsini, prince of Taranto.

Day 1 - Bari - Massafra - Crispiano • (92km - 1.15h driving)

Arrival at the airport in Bari, pick-up by our driver and transfer to Massafra (50 min.) where we meet our local guide. We enjoy a naturalistic excursion and discover the Gravina di Massafra, a deep erosive furrow, similar to American canyons, that rips through the earth and preserve a unique naturalistic, archaeological and rock heritage! At the end of the excursion, we move to a nearby Masseria in the countryside of Crispiano for the check-in.
We enjoy a wine tour and admire the barrel cellar and the vineyard-garden designed by an important Spanish Landscape designer. We enjoy a local glass of wine and some delicacies.
In the evening, dinner at the Masseria’s restaurant and overnight stay.

Day 2 - Crispiano - Locorotondo - Masseria - Martina Franca (55km - 1.15h driving)

Breakfast and departure for Locorotondo, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy.
At midday, we drive to a nearby Masseria where we take part in a cooking-class to learn how to make typical Apulian fresh pasta. Here, in the heart of the Itria Valley, we enjoy a delicious lunch with zero-km products. We then move to Martina Franca for a nice walking tour to admire this elegant Baroque city defined as “the living room of the Itria Valley”.  At the end of the visit, we driver back to our Masseria for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 3 - Crispiano - Polignano a Mare - Bari (97km - 1.40h driving)

After breakfast at the Masseria we check-out and depart for Polignano a Mare where we will enjoy a guided tour of the historic centre of this town perched on the rocks, with the famous and scenic Lama Monachile and the characteristic old town. Lunch not included and departure for Bari airport.

How's the climate ?

Along the coast and in the flat areas weather is generally hot, windy and dry summers and mild winters. Rainfall is generally scarce. Summer temperatures have peaks of 40 degrees and in winter the lows can reach -2 degrees.

Are meals included ?

You will have included 2 breakfasts + 2 dinners + 1 lunch and 1 wine tasting.

Which transportation will be used ?

Van (from 2 to 7pax) or Minibus (with 8pax).

What is "borgo"?

The literal translation of Borgo in English would be “Hamlet” or “Village“ but these words do not fully explains the meaning of “Borgo” is.
A “Borgo” is a fascinating, ancient, small Italian town, generally fortified and dating back to the period from Middle Ages to Renaissance. Walking in a “Borgo” is a step back in time, a walk through history, a typical Italian experience.

For logistics or technical reasons, the itinerary can be run with some amendments on the sequence of the visits and excursions.
